European Floating LiDAR, Energy Intelligence Providers Join Forces in Brazilian Offshore Wind Market

TGS, a Norway and US-based energy data firm, and EOLOS, a Spanish floating LiDAR technology provider, have teamed up to conduct wind and metocean measurement campaigns in Brazil.

In this partnership, TGS will oversee client contracts, campaign design, deployment, and operations, while EOLOS will provide its FLS200 floating LiDAR systems for wind, metocean, and environmental measurements.

TGS will engage with regulators and local stakeholders, aligning with Brazilian content, logistics, and permitting requirements to ensure timely execution for developers. This collaboration, established in 2022, combines floating LiDAR measurements with TGS’s metocean expertise, aiding developers in refining site selection and optimizing layouts.

In Brazil, the government recently issued its first preliminary investigation license for an offshore wind project, led by the SENAI Institute of Innovation in Renewable Energy (ISI-ER).

Brazil’s Institute for the Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA) is currently reviewing 104 environmental licensing requests for offshore wind projects. Meanwhile, the government is developing policies and regulations to facilitate the auction of offshore wind areas, with the first tender expected once the framework is in place.
