Durapower and Kıvanç Enerji Forge Strategic Alliance for Battery Manufacturing in Turkey
In an effort to bolster clean energy adoption and supply chain resilience, Singapore’s Durapower Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Turkish industrial giant Kıvanç Enerji. The agreement, made official in Detroit, USA, on October 8, 2025, seeks to explore a joint venture aimed at manufacturing battery cells and packs in Turkey for the US market.
“Durapower is proud to partner with Kıvanç, establishing the foundation for a strategic battery manufacturing hub to serve the US and the Americas,” stated Sanjay Bakshi, Senior Group Director for the Americas Market at Durapower. The partnership combines Durapower’s expertise in cell and pack technology with Kıvanç’s industrial prowess to drive innovation and scale in the lithium-ion battery sector.
The collaboration comes as the demand for electric vehicle batteries in the US is projected to more than double from 116 GWh in 2024 to over 280 GWh by 2030, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). Durapower and Kıvanç’s initiative aims to create a diversified and sustainable supply chain to meet this growing demand.
Strategic Collaborations to Drive Growth
The joint venture’s initial focus is on establishing a GWh-scale production facility that will manufacture various battery chemistries, including Lithium Manganese Iron Phosphate (LMFP) and Nickel Manganese Cobalt-oxide (NMC). The phased capacity expansion will align with regional energy storage and commercial mobility market demands, with potential plans for a US-based manufacturing facility.
Nizamettin Derbil, Deputy General Manager of Kıvanç Enerji, emphasized the partnership’s potential to “integrate Durapower’s battery systems with Kıvanç’s solar modules to deliver comprehensive renewable energy solutions.” The collaboration is anticipated to expand into the Balkans, where Kıvanç is already a significant renewable energy investor.
