Aker Solutions-Siemens Energy Consortium Receives Full Notice to Proceed for RWE's Two Norfolk Offshore Wind Projects

RWE has issued the full notice to proceed to Aker Solutions and Siemens Energy for the substations of the Norfolk Vanguard West and East offshore wind projects in the UK.

Aker Solutions announced on 15 January that it has been involved in these projects under a limited notice to proceed, initiated in November 2023.

Previously owned by Vattenfall, the Norfolk offshore wind projects were acquired by RWE at the end of 2023. The transaction was finalized in March 2024.

Aker Solutions, in consortium with Siemens Energy, is responsible for engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of the offshore HVDC platform. Siemens Energy handles the onshore station and high voltage equipment offshore.

The Aker Solutions and Drydocks World joint venture will provide two HVDC platforms. Topsides fabrication is taking place at Drydocks World in Dubai, UAE, while foundations are being made in Aker Solutions’ yard in Verdal, Norway.

Engineering and procurement are ongoing for both topsides and foundations. The Norfolk Vanguard West platform began fabrication in April 2024, and the Norfolk Vanguard East platform will start in the second quarter of 2025.

Offshore platforms are scheduled for delivery and installation in 2027 and 2028. Prior to installation, they will be transported to Aker Solutions’ Stord yard for final preparations, including transfer to a heavy lift vessel.

The Norfolk Vanguard West and East mark the first phase of RWE’s Norfolk Offshore Wind Zone, which also includes Norfolk Boreas. These projects, each planned at 1.4 GW capacity, are situated 50 to 80 kilometers off the Norfolk coast in East Anglia and have obtained all necessary permits.
