The initiative aims to develop a comprehensive electrical infrastructure concept for Bellrock, optimizing the project’s transmission system from offshore generation to onshore grid connection.

Located 120 kilometers off the Aberdeenshire coast, Bellrock is a proposed 1.8 GW floating offshore wind project. It aims to significantly contribute to Scotland and the UK’s renewable energy goals, while boosting the floating offshore wind supply chain.

Aker Solutions will evaluate multiple transmission configurations and key elements of the electrical system, including inter-array cabling, substations, export cables, and grid integration.

The study will offer insights into costs, schedules, and the supply chain to aid procurement planning, refine Bellrock’s concept, and mitigate risks as the project advances through design and investment stages.

Entr will provide project execution experience, while Unitech Power Systems contributes specialist electrical engineering expertise. This collaboration will guide investment decisions and lay a foundation for future design and procurement.

“This study is about making crucial technical decisions early. Partnering with Aker Solutions, Entr, and Unitech Power Systems combines offshore project experience with electrical engineering at a critical stage,” said David Robertson, Portfolio Director at Nadara.

“The work will help us evaluate robust transmission options, understand key cost considerations, and strengthen the evidence base for future investment.”

The Wind Farm Development Area consent application for Bellrock was submitted in April 2026 and is in the determination process. Ongoing work covers the project’s transmission infrastructure, including design, surveys, and stakeholder engagement.

Pending consents and approvals, the project will proceed through further transmission consenting and procurement stages, with the concept study refining its future design.

“Early transmission system definition is vital to managing cost and technical risk. Through Entr and Unitech Power Systems, we will combine project execution insight with electrical engineering expertise to identify a viable concept for Bellrock,” stated Dorthe Kirkeby, Vice President of Ocean and Wind at Entr, Aker Solutions.

“Floating offshore wind is pivotal in the energy transition, and robust early-stage design is essential for project advancement.”
