Swedish Initiative to Increase Cable Capacity Through Extended Partnership with NKT

Sweden’s Hexatronic Group boosts fibre-optic cable production at Hudiksvall, doubling capacity for NKT partnership.
Swedes Expand Cable Capacity as Part of Long-Term Deal with NKT

Sweden’s Hexatronic Group is launching a new fibre-optic cable production line at its largest site, under a long-term supply agreement with Danish firm NKT.

This production line at the Hudiksvall facility will more than double Hexatronic’s submarine cable manufacturing capacity, increasing it from approximately SEK 150-200 million (EUR 13.5–18.1 million) to over SEK 500 million (EUR 45.2 million) annually, based on the product mix.

The Hudiksvall site is the group’s largest and a hub for advanced fibre cable and microduct manufacturing. Hexatronic currently operates a submarine fibre-optic cable line in Hudiksvall.

“The demand for submarine cable solutions continues to grow, driven by electrification, digitalization, offshore energy projects, and the need for robust communication infrastructure,” said Rikard Fröberg, President and CEO of Hexatronic Group.

“This investment allows us to further strengthen our competitiveness in a critical and growing segment with strong order intake, a trend we expect to continue. Our relationship with NKT also deepens.”

The investment supports demand driven by offshore wind and subsea communication infrastructure expansion, with much of the capacity intended for NKT under the new supply framework through 2032.

The new production line is slated for commissioning in 2028.

“Securing capacity from this new line supports our ability to execute future projects effectively. We are pleased to strengthen our long-standing collaboration with Hexatronic,” said Will Hendrikx, COO and Deputy CEO at NKT.
