ABL Appointed Marine Warranty Surveyor for Shinan Ui Offshore Wind Project in South Korea

The energy and marine consultancy firm ABL, part of the Norwegian ABL Group, has been appointed as the marine warranty surveyor (MWS) for the Shinan Ui offshore wind project in South Korea. ABL will provide marine warranty survey services to support transportation and installation operations, alongside marine assurance services for the 390 MW offshore wind project.

ABL’s responsibilities include reviewing technical documents, approving procedures and drawings for the entire offshore package, conducting suitability surveys of the proposed fleet, and on-site attendance to approve all marine operations. ABL’s operations lead in South Korea, Junyoung Kim, emphasized the project’s significance for South Korea’s energy landscape, highlighting ABL’s local and global MWS track record in offshore wind farm installations to ensure safe and efficient delivery.

The 390 MW Shinan-Ui project, located off Jeollanam Province, will be developed by a consortium including Hanwha Ocean, SK Eternix, KOMIPO (Korea Midland Power Co.), Future Energy Fund, and Hyundai Engineering & Construction.

The offshore wind farm will feature 26 Vestas V236-15.0 MW offshore wind turbines on fixed-bottom foundations. Offshore construction is set to begin this year, with wind turbine delivery scheduled for 2027.

In April, the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Korea announced a project financing agreement, signifying the start of large-scale capital deployment. Full operation is targeted for 2029. Most key components, excluding wind turbines, such as substructures, subsea cables, offshore substations, and installation vessels, will be sourced domestically.
