Palfinger Secures Contract for Electric Cranes at Formosa 4 Wind Farm in Taiwan
Palfinger has been awarded a contract to provide PF 200 fully electric offshore cranes for the Formosa 4 offshore wind farm in Taiwan. Under the agreement with Synera Renewables Taiwan (SRE), Palfinger will deliver 35 cranes, each with a 7-meter outreach, for installation on jacket foundations with 14 MW Siemens Energy turbines.
“A modular design, high corrosion resistance, and easy maintenance offer turnkey value for SRE by minimizing vessel time and operational risk,” said Alexander Lee, Regional Sales Director APAC at Palfinger.
This is Palfinger’s eleventh project in Taiwan, marking the ninth wind farm to utilize its service platform cranes. Deliveries are scheduled between the second and third quarters of 2026, with installations in Taiwan within the same year. Upon completion, Taiwan will have 271 offshore wind cranes installed.
Iavor M. Markov, Global Key Account & Segment Manager Offshore Wind at Palfinger, noted, “Our increasing footprint in fully electric lifting solutions for offshore wind demonstrates customer trust in our reliable equipment.”
Located 18 to 20 kilometers off Miaoli County, the Formosa 4 wind farm spans 58 km² and includes 35 14 MW Siemens Gamesa turbines, with a total capacity of 495 MW.
“Our service setup in Taichung is geared to meet future demands,” Lee added. This initiative aligns with Palfinger’s Strategy 2030+, emphasizing service as a field for strengthening customer relations.
The Formosa 4 wind farm secured capacity in Taiwan’s Phase 3 auction in 2022 and received its establishment permit in late 2024. Throughout 2025, SRE signed agreements with key contractors, including Century Wind Power (CWP) for supplying 35 jacket foundations. CSBC-DEME Wind Engineering (CDWE) will manage the transportation and installation of turbine foundations and the offshore substation. Project export cables will be installed by Jan De Nul, while Seaway7 will handle the inter-array cables.
