U.S.-Japan Agreement Paves Way for Advanced Nuclear Energy Expansion
Significant progress marks a new era for nuclear technology in the U.S., enhancing energy security and supporting sustainable power generation.
This initiative aims to fuel AI and industrial growth with dependable, low-carbon energy while bolstering job creation in America.
NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR), a leader in small modular reactor (SMR) technology, has applauded its partner, ENTRA1 Energy, for securing up to $25 billion in investments through a new $550 billion U.S.-Japan Framework Agreement.
The bilateral agreement, revealed after a meeting between President Donald J. Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo, aims to drive $550 billion in investments to boost critical energy infrastructure and secure supply chains.
ENTRA1 Energy plans to develop power plants using stable energy sources to meet the rising energy needs of AI data centers, manufacturing, and national defense. This effort is expected to create numerous American jobs and enhance U.S. energy independence.
John Hopkins, President and CEO of NuScale Power, stated, “We are proud to support ENTRA1 Energy as they take part in this historic agreement between the United States and Japan. This collaboration underscores the central role of advanced nuclear in powering our economy, strengthening alliances and providing the reliable energy needed for AI, manufacturing and critical infrastructure.”
This announcement follows ENTRA1’s agreement with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to develop up to 6 gigawatts of new clean baseload power using NuScale’s SMR technology. These projects emphasize the increasing importance of advanced nuclear power in U.S. industrial revitalization, energy security, and carbon reduction.
Hopkins added that the U.S.–Japan framework validates their partnership model with ENTRA1, combining NRC-approved SMR technology with top-tier development expertise, accelerating clean power deployment.
