The Norwegian Ministry of Energy has extended the deadline by twelve months for Ventyr, a consortium of JERA Nex BP and Ingka Investments, to submit a license application for Norway’s first commercial offshore wind farm, Sørlige Nordsjø II.
Ventyr requested an extension in June 2026 to evaluate alternative landfall and grid connection options. The firm cited unexpected challenges in development and planning, as well as a challenging macroeconomic environment for offshore wind.
Ventyr considers the alternative, known as G 2.0, near the Lista substation at Alcoa’s aluminium plant, as promising due to its societal and environmental benefits. However, further studies are needed to mature this option.
The new submission deadline for the license application for the 1.5 GW offshore wind farm is 15 October 2027.
The consortium secured the rights to develop the Sørlige Nordsjø II zone with a bid of NOK 1.15/kWh (EUR 0.099/kWh) in March 2024, during Norway’s first offshore wind auction in the fixed-bottom project development zone.
In May last year, the Ministry of Energy initiated Norway’s first floating wind tender for the Utsira Nord area. By December 2025, two applicants – a joint venture between Deep Wind Offshore and EDF Renewables, and a consortium of Equinor and Vårgrønn – were awarded project areas.
